Modelling the maphorion

Prepare a darker mixture, than the first puddle, for modelling the garment. We have done a mixture of burnt Siena with a bit of burnt umber, a hint of ultramarine blue and a hint of China red. The mixture must be liquid enough but less liquid than the first puddle.

The major part of modelling consists in darkening the () circumference of the garment. First, apply your colour on the verge of the garment. Then, take a part of your mixture, add some water to it and apply your diluted colour nearby and around. Finally, push your diluted colour towards the darker colour and raise your brush. When it dries, you will obtain a very nice gradation, from a clearer to a darker colour, while preserving the transparency of clearer areas.

Do the same operation to increase the intensity of the colour in the hollows and folds of the garment. For the opposite sleeve for example, apply your darker colour on the triangle at the bottom, below the hand. Take some more diluted colour and apply it from the top of the sleeve, pulling the pigments toward the bottom, and raise your brush. For the other hollows and folds of the garment, please look at the big size picture of the stage...

Once the modelling is finished on the whole maphorion, retrace the drawing with a mixture of the modelling colour with a touch of blue or a hint of black...
