L'Archange Michel

The headband and the ribbons

When we applied the basic colour of the flesh, we covered the headband, so we need to scratch the colour until you reach the white background of levkas. Use a scalpel and scratch delicately not to damage the levkas.

Trace the folds and the exterior edge of the headband with quite a dry mixture of blue – ultramarine blue, a point of viridian and a small point of burnt umber to slightly darken the colour.

Pass a fine layer of ox gall onto the gold. Let it dry and trace the ribbons with the same blue colour.

Apply a transparent and light blue puddle -composed of cobalt blue, a touch of viridian and a touch of white lead- on all the surface of the headband.

Once the puddle is dry, apply one or two highlights by adding white lead and then titanium white to the basic colour.
