Lining the red garment
The mixture for the lines is composed of red ochre (4/5) and China red (1/5) with a touch of ultramarine blue. The mixture must not be very fluid – don't add any water – but add a good proportion of emulsion to obtain solid lines. Indeed, the lines have to resist the application of the background of the garment's colour.
The way you place the board while drawing with the brush is essential to do precise and regular lines. Don't hesitate turning the board till you find a position where you feel comfortable. This way you will avoid drawing hesitant lines that can only translate into hesitant gestures. Your brush must contain enough colour for one or two lines and must not be too loaded.
