Lining the mountain

The colour of the lines is a mixture of yellow ochre, a bit of veronese green and a touch of burnt umber. Add a good proportion of emulsion and avoid to end up with a mixture that is too liquid. Sometimes, the lines applied on the verge of the gilded area don't stick properly. What you need to do is to wait until that first layer dries well and apply a second one. Usually, that should be enough. If that is not the case, scratch a little bit with a scalpel and redraw.

The first puddle of the mountain

Make a very liquid mixture of yellow ochre, veronese green and burnt umber (less umber than for the colour of the lines) and apply the puddle pushing the pigments up to the top of the mountain. This way of using the puddle technique constitutes a first modelling which leaves the clearest parts of the mountain very transparent.
