Stumping the first highlights

This operation consists in making the highlight progressive by erasing the limits of the areas of application of the successive puddles.

Prepare a mixture of water and emulsion (50/50) with a very small point of red ochre. Take a little of this mixture in your brush - don't load it too much - and apply it on the highlighted areas once or twice and wait. This waiting time enables the surface to soften a little bit. Apply again once or twice with your brush to fuse the colour and extend the surface (stumping) so as to obtain soft and progressive transitions. Don't insist too much on the same area, you could do a “hole” in the highlight. Let it dry completely after stumping.

Retracing the lines

Prepare the colour: a good point of burnt Siena, a little point of black and one or two drops of egg. The mixture in the brush must be quite dry.

Retrace all the lines of the drawing with a fine brush. The lines must be fine and precise.
