Born into a noble family of Pskov, Olga married Prince Igor I, Duke of kiev, in 903. After her husband's assassination in 945, she ruled Russia with wisdom and mercy until her own death. She converted to Christianity in Constantinople in 958 and took the name Helena.
Back in Russia, she traveled through her country preaching the faith, but without succeeding in converting her people during her lifetime. Olga nevertheless predicted this conversion and worked hard on it: she took care in particular of the education of her grandson, Saint Vladimir, who was definitely going to give the Holy Baptism to Russia.
