The number of the myrrh bearing women present at the tomb of Jesus varies according to the evangelists but the three best known are:

- Saint Mary Magdalene.

- Saint Mary Cleophas (sometimes called Mary Jacobe) the wife of Alphee, mother of saint James the minor.

- Saint Mary Salome, the mother of James and John, the sons of Zebedee.

Saint Luke (24.10) also mentions:

- Saint Joanna the wife of Chuza, the steward of Herod Antipas.

Tradition reports that the female disciples of Jesus who assisted him with their goods were also present at the tomb:

- Saint Susanna.

- Saint Mary of Bethany, Sister of Lazarus.
