The Annunciation is the Announcement made by Archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary of the mystery that will be achieved in her: the Word of God, born from the Father before every century, True God from True God, will be incarnated in her without human intervention.
The icon depicts the Celestial Messenger descending as suggested by the curve formed by his wing and finished by his arm. He transmits his celestial message to the Mother of God who is humbly receptive.
