Very venerated in Russia, the icon of the Mother of God of Kazan presents us with a Virgin of the type "Hodigitria" (Who shows the Way) whose Son is standing facing the viewer.
Child Jesus, in the Byzantine tradition, is never represented as a baby, since he is above all the Word of God. He always wears the clothing of an adult and yet his reduced size indicates that He is a child.
